About
October 15, 2009Hello everyone! Let me introduce myself–I’m Scott, the photographer at Last Best Photography. I’m also a proud father of three, a husband to my wonderful wife, and a lifelong Montanan. I live in some of the most beautiful country in Montana (or anywhere on Earth for that matter)–in the heart of the Bitterroot Valley, in Hamilton. We’re surrounded by the mountains…the Bitterroots on the west side, and the Sapphire mountains on the east. I love it here!
I’ve lived all over Montana…from Miles City in the East, to Missoula and Hamilton in the west. To me though, it’s the mining city of Butte that will always be my hometown. It’s people, it’s food, it’s giant mountain peaks, and yes, even the Berkley Pit all have a special place in my heart.
So that’s a little bit about me…here’s a little about my photography. When I was about 9 years old my dad that handed me his 1960s vintage Pentax 35mm and showed me how to use it…and from that moment I had the bug pretty bad. Here were so many of the things I liked–it was metal, mechanical, a little mysterious, and art all wrapped up in a neat little package. Photography had been a hobby of his since the ’60s, and he built a darkroom in our basement. I’ve still got many fond memories of developing my own prints down there with Dad. If I close my eyes I can still vaguely smell the developer in the air, see the glow of the red light bulb, and hear the buzzing of the exposure timer as it ran down. I ran all over our neighborhood with his old camera and a single 50mm lens…snapping lots of Kodak Tri-X black and white film. I must have been quite a sight…the little kid running around with dad’s old chrome camera with a light meter around my neck! Even since those days, I’ve really loved the process of making an image…freezing a moment in time forever. Even though I’ve studied a lot of other art forms, from oil painting to sculpture, it was really in photography that I found the way that I’m free to be “me” to explore the world we live in -my- way. I want to use that vision to bring to you heartwarming images that you’ll always treasure…a moment in time that will never end.
Ultimately though, it’s not about me…it’s about YOU! Let me know how I can help you! Contact me at photog@lastbestphotography.com, and lets discuss how I can help preserve your greatest moments, forever.
-Scott
